Joshimath
Joshimath (also called Jyotirmath) is a sacred town at 1,890 m (6,200 ft) in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand's Garhwal region. Founded by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century CE as one of four cardinal mathas (monasteries).
